“We can all do so much more than we think we can”
My name is Nomfundo Biyela, and I am an IT Intern at Mahlako A Phahla Investments. I applied for the Mahlako Internship Programme through LinkedIn almost a year after obtaining a degree in Bachelor of Sciences in Information Technology from the North West University.
The Mahlako Internship Programme has allowed me to be open minded in exploring various careers in the IT industry. It also offered me an opportunity to explore the Energy sector through working with the different departments as well as shared divisions in the company.
Through the Advisory and Investments departments, I aim to obtain skills in Financial Management, Risk Management, Report Writing and Presentation Development as well as Project Management to name a few. Furthermore, the Marketing division presents an opportunity to explore one of my passions – Website Design.
Moreover, I enjoy the working environment because it initiates unlimited exposure. Mahlako is constantly growing, and this makes it easier for an Intern such as myself to be involved in the day-to-day business of the company and I am continuously looking forward to acquiring knowledge.
Therefore, the Mahlako Internship Programme not only broadened my perspective on how to pursue a career in IT, but it also showed me that it is possible to explore other fields connected to my industry. Learning is an ongoing process, and I am not limiting myself to know more, to do more and to be more than what I am today, tomorrow and the days to follow because I will do so much more than I think I can.
